Weekly Reflection #2

This week I learned what an Open Educational Resource (OER) is and how to use it. I explored Unsplash, which is an OER that provides high quality images on a wide variety of subjects. I also learned how to properly attribute credit for images on an OER, which involves adding a link to both the OER and artist’s page in the caption.

In class, we learned about copyright and how it affects classroom material we use and create. Before this class, I had not really considered how copyright affects everyday classroom materials, especially since it is so easy to find resources online. However, I now have a better understanding that just because something is available online there are still permissions and expectations we must respect to properly use the original creator’s work. In specific, we learned about the different Creative Commons licenses and what they mean.

Overall, this week I learned a lot about attributing credit properly when using digital resources and the importance of doing so, especially in a professional setting. I look forward to using the other OERs provided in class and learning how to incorporate these resources into my teaching.
